SOUND. SPACE. RESISTANCE.
A focus on sound system culture in North Wales and surrounding.
When thinking over what my final exhibition could be based on, I realised I've been going to events for a decade. A whole decade. I'm 27. I cannot confirm or deny that I used fake ID.
I love the connection, the collective energy. The energy of sound floating through your body, the feeling of the vibrations, shaking almost as if it's adding an extra beat to your heart.
Big secret scene in North Wales, my home. Dub scene. Techno scene. Rave scene. Sound system scene. Loud sound, bouncing, dancing, MCs, etc etc
I decided I wanted to ‘take up space’. I visualised and designed an installation, to-scale. Simple white fabric and a play on silhouettes to create the ‘speakers’.
I also interviewed some loved ones (who love to party) and played their interviews on loop at the exhibition. Since it’s all about connection and the collective!
So I didn’t create anything ‘traditional’ in the world of art, but I still created art, and had fun with it. I created something immersive, something to make viewers think and reminisce. We all love music after all.
